Jeff Karstens is the best pitcher on the Pirates staff in terms of ERA and is 5th in the National League. That's pretty amazing. The bats are still struggling, but the pitching has remained consistent; one of the big concerns earlier in the season was that the pitching would regress back towards last year but thankfully it hasn't happened. As for the offense, Garrett Jones hit what would turn out to be the only RBI necessary in the 2nd inning, scoring Neil Walker. I would still like to see more offense, but I'll take a win over a high-scoring loss any day.
