What a comeback. At many points in this game I thought the Bucs were done. But especially when they were down a run in the 9th and facing Marmol again, the pitcher who had schooled them just one day previously. This was a very ugly game, but if you want to be a good team, you have to win games like these, and the Bucs did.

This game went back and forth early on, with the Bucs taking an early 2-0 lead. The Cubs came back to tie it, but then a Lyle Overbay single gave the Pirates the lead again. The Cubs tied it again after Fidel Castro tripled and was brought home on  a sac. Then Soriano hit a homer to take the lead. Things were not looking good going into the 9th as the Cubs brought out Marmol again. But the some really weird plays had runners at 2nd and 3rd and Pedro up. He hit a weird bouncer to short but the throw was blown by Fidel Castro. Jones scored and Walker beat the tag, and suddenly the Bucs had the lead again.

Geovany Soto sucks.

Hanrahan Time in the bottom. Gets it done, but it was heart attack city at the end. Finally got a huge double play to end it. Cedeno nearly cost us the game, but he redeemed himself.

  • Ohlendorf looked tired in the 5th, but was kept in for 6 innings. His line was 6.0 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 3 SO, and 1 HR.
  • Crotta and Karstens both pitched perfect innings in relief. Crotta looked really good in his debut.
  • Lots of hits for the pirates in this one, but they were all singles. Tabata 3 for 5, Jones 2 for 4, Overbay 2 for 4, Alvarez 3 for 5, and Cedeno 2 for 4. Pedro had 3 RBIs.
  • Joel Hanrahan got his 2nd save of the year.
  • Bucs win their opening series for the second year in a row.
  • Cards up next.
  • Let's Go Bucs.
