There's something different about the Pirates pitching this year, but maybe you can't quite put your finger on it. Give up? Let me ask you a question: How many balls have you seen go out of the park this year off the Pirates? The answer is 7, which is the second-lowest in the majors. Until Jay Bruce's meaningless home run in the bottom of the ninth last night, the Pirates hadn't given up a home run in 21 straight innings. Their current pace would put them at giving up just 87 on the year, which is a far cry from the 167 they gave up last year. This pace probably won't continue all year (last year, the lowest HR total was 126), but it's a nice stat nonetheless.

The Pirates look to get back to .500 with a win today. If they win, it will be the first time the team has come back from 2+ games under .500 since 2008. J-Mac looks to have a strong start for the first time since last year. He looked pretty shaky in his first two starts and we need him to get back to his late season form to get back in the hunt.
