Paul Maholm was not as efficient as he had been in previous starts, and as a result his ERA went up (2.96 to 3.06). Still, with homers from Lyle Overbay and Brandon Wood in the 6th, the Pirates were able to take the lead and held it going into the 8th. Jose Veras came in to pitch, and that's when everything went to hell. A walk, a stolen base, an error, and 2 singles later, and suddenly the Bucs were down by 2 with only 3 outs to work with. Walker and Cutch grounded out, and Matt Diaz ended it in traditional Diaz style by flying out to right. Still, we're back to where we were 2 days ago, still in the running for the division lead. There's no time to dwell on this game with another game in like 8 seconds.
