Catching Up

Between Blogger being down and my being extremely busy this weekend, I haven't had a chance to do any posting. The Pirates, for their part, haven't been exactly inspiring on the field either. Anyway, it's time to do some quick recaps of what has been missed.

May 11, 2011 - Dodgers 2, Pirates 0
Just 4 hits for the Bucs in the entire game, the only one that wasn't a base hit was a double by Pedro.

May 12, 2011 - POSTPONED
The Pirates were down 1-0 before the game was postponed by rain.

May 13, 2011 - Pirates 2, Brewers 5
Rickie Weeks is an idiot and starts a pointless bench-clearing brawl after backing into Ronny Cedeno's tag during a rundown. Cedeno had a home run later, Tabata had a double, and Lyle Overbay went 2 for 4, but it was not nearly enough.

May 14, 2011 - Pirates 2, Brewers 8
Jeff Karstens pitches well for 5 innings, but another bullpen collapse seals the Pirates' fate. McCutchen went 2 for 5 with a double, Pedro had a double, and Lyle Overbay hit a home run.

May 15, 2011 - Pirates 6, Brewers 9
Lloyd Braun goes off with 4 RBIs and Kevin Correia gets shellacked. Resop continues to struggle. The Pirates rallied somewhat in the 5th inning, but it was ultimately meaningless. Alvarez and Cedeno both went 2 for 4; Snyder, Cedeno, and Pearce had doubles, McCutchen had a triple, and Neil Walker had a solo home run.

So that's where we stand, on a 5-game losing streak, the longest of the year. Somehow, the Brewers always seem to play like All-Stars against us despite being a mediocre baseball team. No clue. 2-game series against the Nats and Reds are up next, and then interleague play begins, where the Pirates have been downright awful in recent years. These next few series could hold the ultimate fate of the Pirates this season-- win them and we're back in it, lose and it's another long summer of meaningless baseball.
